Wolverhampton’s Compton Hospice is appealing for volunteers to help run one of its frontline services.
The charity, which provides care and support for patients with incurable illnesses, is currently seeking volunteers to support its reception service which operates seven days a week between the hours of 8.30am and 8.30pm.
The hospice, based on Compton Road West, is searching for volunteers to cover evening and weekend reception duties which involves welcoming new patients and visitors to the hospice as well as directing telephone enquiries.
Roz Pedley has been a volunteer at the hospice for the last 13 years. She said: “It is a privilege to be a volunteer on reception here at Compton because you’re the first point of contact for everybody coming into the hospice.
“The role is very varied and no two days are the same. You get to meet some very lovely people doing this job and help spread a little joy.

Compton Hospice currently has a team of over 800 volunteers and relies on the support of those who choose to give up their time in order to keep its services running.
Sue Bennett, Volunteer Services Manager, said: “Compton Hospice simply couldn’t function without the contribution of volunteers. The care and personality our volunteers bring to the hospice enhances our services in a very special way.
We are looking for friendly, approachable and welcoming volunteers to man our reception desk between the hours of 4.15pm and 8.30pm.
“Opportunities are available for those who are able to commit to a regular weekly shift as well as those who may only have a few hours to spare occasionally.”
