Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council is leading on a one year pilot project on social prescribing. It has been estimated that around 20% of patients consult their GP for what is primarily a social problem.
In its broadest sense, social prescribing may connect the GP practice and other organisations including voluntary groups providing a range of services such as volunteering, arts activities, group learning, gardening, befriending, cookery and healthy eating, range of sports and a whole lot more.
