Training Opportunity for Qualified Counsellors – starting October 2017

Relate Birmingham is a local charity working to help people build better relationships and reduce the negative impact of family breakdown, especially for children. Our Time for You service has been providing confidential counselling to children and young people suffering emotional, behavioural or social difficulties due to family conflict, breakdown or changes at home for over 14 years.

We have 5 fully funded placements available to qualified counsellors who want to train with us to work with young people (aged 10-18) in Birmingham, Solihull and Wolverhampton.  On successful completion of the course, employment opportunities may be available.

Training Placements – Young People’s Counsellor

The placement will take approximately 9-12 months and will consist of:

·         Relate’s Post Qualifying Training Course in Working with Young People – a total of 9 days delivered in 4 blocks between October and November 2017, plus additional online training.  The course covers all the elements to prepare and equip practitioners to work in Relate with young people and is aligned to the BACP competency framework for counselling young people.  Participants are required to do a presentation to the group in Module 5 and submit a 2000 word learning statement on the last day of the course.

·         Followed by a 70 hour supervised counselling placement with Relate, starting in November or January.  This will consist of 3 appointments a week, offered at after school times or a Saturday morning at our Birmingham, Wolverhampton or Solihull centres.

We want to develop a workforce with a wide range of backgrounds, skills and experience.  To support our aims, this as a fully subsidised course for successful applicants (apart from any travel and other personal expenses incurred and an enhanced DBS check fee).

Application Criteria:

To apply for a placement you will already have a Level 5 diploma in counselling and experience of working with young people in a relevant field.  You must be able to commit to attend all the training dates and complete all the course requirements, as well as attending monthly clinical supervision and delivering 70 hours of counselling to young people.

An enhanced DBS Disclosure will be required for this post and the cost is to be met by the delegate.
