We are seeking to recruit an experienced individual to join NHS Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group as a Lay Member.

As a member of the governing body, the Lay Member – PPI will share responsibility as part of a team to ensure that the group exercises its functions effectively, efficiently and economically, with good governance and in accordance with the terms of its Constitution.  You will apply your leadership skills in order to fulfil your responsibilities and establish credibility with all stakeholders and partners. Your focus will be strategic and impartial, providing an external view of the work of the group that is removed from the day-to-day running of the organisation.

The role of this Lay Member will be to use their knowledge of Wolverhampton and the local health economy to express informed views about the discharge of the group’s functions.  They will ensure that in all aspects of the CCG’s business the voice of the local population is heard and that opportunities are created for patient and public empowerment.

The post holder will be the Deputy Chair of the governing body, Chair of the Primary Care Committee and the CCG’s lead for Equality and Diversity.

The Lay Member – Patient and Public Involvement will support the delivery of decisions made by the governing body as a whole and will help ensure that:

·     the voice of stakeholders, including patients and the public and member practices is heard at the heart of the CCG’s discussions and decision making;
·     the governing body and the wider CCG acts in the best interests of and with regard to the health of the local population at all times;
·     the CCG commissions the highest quality services with a view to securing the best possible outcomes for their patients within their resource allocation and maintains a consistent focus on quality, integration and innovation;
·     the CCG acts with a view to securing health services provided in a way which promotes the NHS Constitution; improves health and wellbeing; supports people to keep mentally and physically well, to get better when they are ill and, when they cannot fully recover, to stay as well as possible to the end of their lives;
·     good governance remains central at all times.

The term of office for this post is five years, for up to two such terms only.

The role is remunerated at £8041.91 per annum.
