Joining Forces from Age UK Wolverhampton is a new service for older veterans and their families/carers. The service aims to support older veterans born before 1st January 1950 to make positive lifestyle changes, supporting them to understand their rights, options and choices and to take steps to achieve their personal goals.

The service is available to veterans who served any time in the military, whether they served in the Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, in Regular or Reserve forces and includes National Service.


How can we help?
We will carry out an initial assessment to discuss your needs, wants and personal goals so that we can provide you with an individual package of support tailored to your needs.
We can help with things such as;

Review your income to make sure you are claiming all your welfare entitlements • increase your understanding of money matters i.e. utility bills, pensions, tax etc.

Health & Care:
Support to back up medical advice received • Assistance to manage long term conditions (diabetes,asthma etc.) • Information and advice to help access local authority and NHS services.

Managing at Home:
Support to access services enabling you to live independently at home including: • Aids and adaptations • Applying for grants to make your home more comfortable • Ensuring you have enough support at home • Understanding your housing options.

Big Life Changes:
Changes such as retirement, changes to your health, loss of a loved one or moving home can be difficult. We can: • help deal with practicalities of a life changing event • Assistance with accessing support and services available in Wolverhampton.

Independence should come with safety. We can help: • Access equipment and adaptations • Access local authority and other support services • Signpost you to a range of services such as help at home options, traders listed in our Word of Mouth brochure, our handyperson service, age appropriate products.* *Charges apply for some services.

Veteran Specific Services:
Our advisers can help you to make contact with ex-services organisations and can identify veteran specific services and funds to help and support you. We can offer advice regarding war pensions, service pensions and other associated service benefits.

Social Groups:
Friendship and companionship are very important. We offer help and support to access a range of activities and social groups. These will provide a great opportunity to spend time with people with similar interests and services-related backgrounds. Bringing together like-minded ex-service personnel will help you make new friends and enjoy hobbies and activities.
