This course is provided FREE OF CHARGE by Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children Board for voluntary and community organisations that work with children and young people in Wolverhampton.

This course has been specifically put on in the evenings to be accessible to those with lead roles in their voluntary or community group that cannot attend training during the daytime.  It is being held over two evenings and you must be able to attend both evenings to book a place.

Target group ….
This course is essential for managers and practitioners in Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations who:

  • are involved in the recruitment and selection processes for staff and volunteers who will be working with, or providing services for children and young people, and families with children.
  • who supervise and/or manage staff
  • have a designated/lead role for safeguarding and child protection

Those who complete the course will be equipped to ….

  • Identify the key features of employee / volunteer recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
  • Consider policies and practice that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
  • review their policies and practice in recruitment with a view to creating a safer culture

The training will cover ….

  • The scale of the problem of avoiding recruiting unsuitable people to work with children and young people
  • Understanding abusers and abuse
  • Preventing abuse through safer recruitment and selection
  • How to apply Safer Recruitment in a voluntary, community and faith sector context
  • How to develop an on-going culture of vigilance
