This Government is transforming its approach to domestic abuse to ensure that victims have the confidence to come forward and report their experiences, safe in the knowledge that the state and the justice system will do everything it can to support them and their children, and pursue their abuser.

We have committed to introducing a draft Domestic Abuse Bill this session, which will include the introduction of a new statutory definition of domestic abuse, an independent domestic abuse commissioner and a new domestic abuse protection order. We also recognise that it will take more than legislation to help victims and survivors rebuild their lives and to combat domestic abuse. That is why we are also developing a cross-Government package of action to raise awareness, support victims, and ensure perpetrators are stopped.

The purpose of this event is to offer professionals, experts and victims the opportunity to provide their expert suggestions in developing the programme of work. We want your input on what changes will make genuine tangible improvements in further protecting and supporting victims and bringing perpetrators to justice.

The event will also provide discussion opportunities and forums to allow comments and feedback on Government proposals.
