Compton Care – Atlas Programme
Supporting Children to Navigate their Way through their Journey of Bereavement

It is estimated that over 12,000 11-16 year old pupils in Wolverhampton were affected by a significant bereavement in 2017.

Studies show that the death of a family member or close friend may be a factor in:

– Reduced academic achievement.
– Increased risk of offending behaviour.
– Increased risk of developing anxiety and depression.

Even though death is a natural part of life, many of us working with children or young people feel poorly equipped to respond at these difficult times. The Atlas programme, run by Compton Care, aims to equip all professionals working with children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to help children to navigate their way through their journey of bereavement.
The programme currently includes study days, shorter 2-hour workshops and free drop-in sessions. These are ideal for teachers, other staff working within Primary and Secondary schools, youth workers, and those from community organisations.
Both the study days and workshops are available free of charge to those working in Wolverhampton schools (not just teaching staff).
The programme can also assist the development of bereavement policy within local schools.
